Bill, I may be the only one on *this* list, but I don't think that you are
in left field. If people continue to have any interest in RGP -- certainly
enough to invest the time and energy to volunteer as a moderator -- then
they would, at the very least, be checking RGP occasionally as a lurker and
be aware of the RGPM issue. There would be no need for Peter to post to
this list trolling for volunteers. Since he brought the issue to this
forum, you should be free to offer your comments which you did eloquently
and respectfully. (Reminds me of the many times in Law and Order, where I
have received all my law school training <g>, when the defendant brings up
in testimony the very issue which had been fought to be suppressed from the
proceedings.)

As far as whether RGPM is a great idea, no, I don't think RGPM is a great
idea. I may not post regularly, but I do try to check RGP on a daily
basis. I choose not to read forums that are moderated on any
basis. Period. People may complain about the lack of good strategy
discussion on RGP, but then I don't go to RGP for strategy discussion; I
subscribe to this list instead (as well as all of the other *ARG lists.) I
know where to find the top poker minds! ;-)

It is not clear to me when or how the vote will occur on RGPM. I hope that
I will be given the opportunity to cast a vote. If RGPM is created, it
will only thrive if there is truly a need and people actually post
there...if not, it will simply devolve into a ghost town after all this fuss.

Finally, I was shocked when I read Peter's comment stating that you "don't
participate on RGP now, Bill" -- I may not read all your posts, Bill
(primarily because they usually go over my head!) but I see "bill Chen"
frequently as I go on my daily trips through Google. This reaffirms my
concerns about moderated groups, especially when such a public statement
could easily have been checked beforehand.

Never swallow dissent, Bill, even though this may not be *the* place for a
prolonged discussion. I am reminded of a quote from World War II, too long
for this space, but basically by someone who said that he didn't speak up
when the Nazis came for the Jews, the Gypsy's, the disabled, the mentally
retarded, etc, but then when the Nazis came for him -- there was no one
left to speak up.
