Regarding mucking aces on the first round, how can that possibly be
right? If you play lots of those tournaments and get "called by a ton
of people" every time you have aces and jam on the first round, although
you may lose more than half of those confrontations, you are a huge
overlay and will profit hugely overall.
His argument is not that he won't win by playing the aces, but that
he'll win *even more* by folding. But you have to be careful with what
you mean by "more." In terms of winnings per tournament, it is
possible, in terms of winnings per hand (or per hour), it is almost
certainly not possible.
So if you can go play another one right away, you should play the aces.
You might win a smaller percentage of the tournaments you play, but
this will be more than made up for by being able to play more of them.
