Now that I'm playing a bit more online, I'm trying to learn about online
tells. So I was wondering whether being obnoxious is a tell.
There are many kinds of obnoxious players, so let me narrow the field.
There are some players who sling insults at players who make loose calls,
even when they themselves were not on the receiving end of a bad beat.
That's who I'm talking about. They are making an affirmative effort to type
in stuff intended to make other players feel bad, even when it is against
their own long-term self-interest and they are not emotionally involved in
the hand.
It seems to me that these players are more likely to be selective and less
likely to be fancy. They are not necessarily great players, but you can
count on them not to have a straight in early position when the board reads
7-6-3. You can generally trust their check-raises to stand for what they
represent.
It also seems likely that they would be more vulnerable to tilt, but since I
mainly play in tournaments I haven't been able to verify this hypothesis.
