In my professional opinion, not disinfecting an Internet-connected computer
that is known to be infected with a malicious virus is criminally negligent
behavior.

If you won't do anything, and your employer won't do anything, then
disconnect the damn machine. If you won't disconnect the damn machine,
then at least wipe out its address book.

Well. Nick, the machine in question was the main computer in a political campaign I was running, which culminated successfully on Tuesday night. Wiping out the address book was not an option, and as it turned out, would have been unnecessarily draconian.

Sure, in the ocean of spam, hack attempts, and malware that we live in it's just a drop in the bucket. But to take such a calous attitude is, in my opinion, unconscionable.

What callous attitude? I apologized for an apparent virus infection. I diagnosed the problem and found that the computers under my control were not responsible. I informed the IT guy for the campaign and he ran a check, no virus. No one else in the address book on that computer had received the virus. It's possible that there was a problem with port security on that computer, it's a possibility we're following up on.

If I were the moderator of this mailing list, your address would have been kicked off of it with prejudice five seconds after I read your reply.

Do you always go on tilt like this? Tell me where you play cards, I'd love to sit across from you...

Ron

Maybe that's just me.
