Regardless, there is a problem with Outhouse express. I handle it by
using UNIX shell accounts for my personal mail. Such accounts are
available at very modest cost from panix.com, rahul.net, and others,
none of which I have connections with except as a customer.

Advantages:

1. I can telnet to my shell account from home, work, or wherever.

2. My personal mail is not stored with my employer.

3. My personal mail is not stored with me, but with a service that pro-
   vides support and backup.

4. I am invulnerable to viruses. I can't spread them either.

5. My mail reader won't display HTML, show pictures, or play sound.
If I really want to see or hear any of these, I can do so with little
effort. I don't send any of that junk out either.

6. The services offer fine spam filtering.

Disadvantage:

1. There's a learning curve for new users. It's not that steep if
one uses the simpler interfaces, like pine for mail and pico for text
entry. These utilities are idiot proof and Republican resistant.

Go thou forth and do likewise.

Ph.
