Hey I really appreciate all the responses guys,
thanks, and it looks like the prevailing advice is
"don't play J/5".
I've read some 'starting hand' analysis, and yeah I
knew it was none too good, but I have also heard that
sometimes it is a good idea to mix up your play to
confuse your opponents, to do something that they
would not expect, thus catching them off-guard.
But I guess with a hand like J/5, you'd be hoping more
for J's and 5's than the flush, since as you point
out, there are three higher flushes.
