In theory, the Garden City in San Jose offers lessons. At least their
TV ads indicate that they do. I haven't checked this out, so I don't
know if it's true or not.
It's true.
Garden City has an instructional table several nights a week. It's
free, they give you some chips (actually they're old tournament chips)
and let you play. I forget which nights, but I know I've seen it in
slowish times over the weekend.
If they get busy, though, that table goes away and the instructor starts
running chips. The instructor is a guy named George. I've talked to
him a few times when waiting on a game; he's friendly and seems to do a
good job.
