According to the Bay101 dealer who plays in my home game, it will be $4
out of the pot after the flop, rather than $3 on the button. $1 if
there's no flop. Starts Wednesday. I think this is a net plus for a
good player.

I'm not sure why, other than you have to post fewer blinds.

With less seed money in the pots, and more money taken from the pots, this may turn out to be an action killer that substantially worsens the games.

Of course, if you are at a table where the opponents will all see the flop, then you are better off under the new structure as you can opt not to play your button.

On a side note - if it's folded to the small blind in a 2-4 or 3-6 game, it's easy to see what a horrible play it is for the small blind to call. All of the money besides his call is dropped, so now he gets to fight the big blind for his own $1 or $2. Of course, all options are bad here. Position is worth about 1/2 a bet in heads up confrontations, and 1/2 or 1/3 of a bet has been removed from the pot if there is a flop, so it's just really bad for the small blind even if he wakes up with a good hand.
