Vegas casino bets on RFID
The casino is installing RFID readers and PCs at game tables. With
antennas placed under each player's place at the table, dealers can
take a quick inventory of chips that have been wagered at the push of
a button.
Interesting: The CNet article emphasizes casino security
(counterfeiting, blackjack
card counting, etc.) as the main application for RFID chips and
mentions player
rating and tracking as an afterthought. On the other hand, the
GAMBLING MAGAZINE
article on Shuffle Master's RFID chip table game systems
(http://www.gamblingmagazine.com/managearticle.asp?C=290&A=13186), the
emphasis is
on player rating, with employee honesty being the only security concern
mentioned
and card-counting left out entirely.
I wonder, as countermeasures get more and more Orwellian, whether
casinos will
liberalize game rules because they fear organized counting teams less.
Somehow
I doubt it.
