FWIW, long ago when the world was young and I played Postal Chess, it was
understood that books could be consulted. The book one would most likely
consult would be one about openings. Similarly, I should think that some
poker novices might play poker with a book open to an "opening hand chart".
Is talking to a friend about your hand really any different?
