Question:

Assuming you are a profitable player at the 6-12, 8-16 level, which is better for you:

Garden City where they rake 3 on the button or
Bay 101 where they take 4 from each pot (no flop only $1 taken)?

It seems to me that you would prefer the Bay 101 approach since you aren't going to be playing as many pots as the rest of the table, but the extra dollar might shift it back to GC having the edge...

In 6-12 or 8-16, there are few hands that should be folded on the button when you have posted a live $3 unless it's been raised or reraised. If the $3 is live button posted, then it's really raked from the pot. This makes the calculation of which game is the better one to play very difficult since you should be playing more hands at the Garden City than at the Bay 101.

If the button charge is dead (which it used to be years ago, and may be again, I haven't been to the south bay clubs in a while), then you have to figure how many pots/hour you win. In a game where the pot is raked, you should be playing a little bit tighter than in a game where the pot isn't raked. Still, that says little about your playing style. There are many different playing styles that are profitable at the 6-12 / 8-16 level, and the player pools and textures of the games in the two clubs vary a lot. The best answer for an individual would be for them to determine which game they enjoy more and which is most profitable for them, and for the individual to make the judgment from there as to where they should be playing.
