Hi, all
I've started playing again (a little) after a pretty lengthy time off. The
word around the cardroom is that the current action game is the 8-16 with
a half-kill. I'm reluctant to jump in, though, before I have some idea of
what to expect. Given that I'm a relatively tight player, isn't playing in
a half-kill game going to be pretty much like giving the dealer a huge tip
every time I win a pot?
Um, yeah, it is. But that's deceiving. Because the loose cannons
in the game will be posting the kill *much* more often than you do,
making more dead money to chase.
Foxwoods used to (may still) spread a 5-10 game with a kill to 10-20.
The kill happened any time a player scooped a pot >$100. I've played
in that game where the pot stayed killed (except for an occasional
split pot), literally *all night*.
So it was like playing 10-20, except that instead of having to post
blinds of 5 and 10, you only had to post 2 and 5 (usually), and some
random fish would post the extra $10 for the table.
It was a *great* game.
