My strategy adjustment to the prospect of $4 coming out of every 3-6 pot is to play 8-16 and 20-40 instead. That may seem like a facetious comment, but I actually mean it seriously.

I'm sure you do, and this is probably correct. I have difficulty imagining how you'd beat such a game.

You beat the game by using it to practice and them moving up. Treat it like tuition. Or entertainment.

Let's say the other players are _really_ bad and you can, despite the robbery (i.e. rake), beat the game for a few dollars an hour, what's that going to do for you? Obviously its not going to have much impact on your lifestyle given the San Jose cost of living. Even if you're trying to build a bankroll to move up, you can probably do that faster and with less risk by getting a burger flipping job, or better yet, learning to deal cards.

This has always been my attitude about 3-6. Taking another dollar/ hand out of the game doesn't really change that much. By the way, if you factor in the customary $1/hand toke, the cost was $4/hand before and $5/hand now. "Only" a 25% increase, not 33%.
